  1. I agree he probably can complete the 90 but doesn't as to be fair to him he probably covers a lot of ground and why not keep that position fresh if we have the opportunity. I like him he's neat and tidy but he just doesn't influence the game enough for me. I also think that any team should have some sort of goal threat from centre midfield and we have been very light there for several years. Hojbjerg, Clasie and Romeu barely seem to have a goal between them and Davis is little better in that department. I often wonder if this is why we seem to pass sideways a lot when in the opposition half. They simply don't want the ball near the opposition goal.
  2. His missus is lovely and not the typical wag. I believe she worked in a shop in Manchester when they first went there.
  3. Well we aren't going to sell for 40 million and buy another CB for 40 million are we? But we might buy two CB's for 15 mill each which gradually raises the level of the squad which is what we've done so well. I cant see Jose leaving now though. United never actually made a serious offer. I think he's being rested in these early EL games purely down to his age and protecting him.
  4. VvD is exceptionally good as well as still being yet to enter his peak years for a centre back. However defenders rarely if ever attract the same money as forwards so I cant see 50 million or above. I also think we are in a strong position as he has a long contract although there's no doubt in my mind the club would have agreed caveats for him depending on who comes in for him or what they offer. It's all good. If he goes we would get a substantial fee to reinvest. If he stays then great. Let's just enjoy him whilst he's here.
  5. We're just so wasteful when we have good possession in their half. We've had lots of good situations and not made much of any of them.
  6. We do seem to be sitting off which must be the tactic. Does seem very risky though to allow City to dominate the ball under no pressure. They are more than good enough to make chances.
  7. Atmosphere is pathetic. These big stadiums are nearly always morgues.
  8. Well to be fair you can read this a couple of ways..... "In the boardroom, a power struggle had developed between Katharina Liebherr and chairman Nicola Cortese - the trusted consigliere to the deceased former owner who had quickly endeared himself to the St Mary's crowd." It reads like Cortese is the subject of the sentence.
  9. It's alright making him stay but it backfires. West Brom lost the transfer fee but more importantly they ended up with a demotivated player for the last 18 months. Even when fit they benched him a lot. I think this was all mishandled by both sides and neither have benefitted. Shows we were lucky that our players at least buckled down and tried which is a credit to them.
  10. I always think it's amazing that other fans have a go at the Northam for chanting boring repetitive songs. Maybe that's true but no one else seems to do anything about it and let's face it, if it wasnt for the northam the majority of our games would be watched in stony silence.
  11. So if the old bill park a car on the street where car thieves operate, then stake it out and catch someone trying to nick it - the police are at fault for encouraging crime?
  12. I guess you can technically do this stuff - but not if you are England manager FFS. What was he thinking?
  13. What the hell is that big empty "shelf" thing running around the ground? Is it just empty space ?
  14. Press reported the following day that JR had a slight groin tear so this would make sense.
  15. Different game nowdays. If you are good you tend to go to a bigger job quickly. If you are ****e you tend to end up on Sky as an expert pundit.
  16. All Man U fans I have ever met are swaggering, pompous, self important, arrogant, myopic, ignorant and self obsessed. I particularly hate that "you've only come to see United" song which sums up their attitude. However this post seems to be from a decent fan of not only united, but one that can see the wider picture and has a genuine love of the game itself. I don't know what to think. I'm going to have to go and lie down and re-evaluate everything I thought I knew about the world.
  17. And of course don't forget the honourable Nathan Dyer - stealing from handbags in a night club wasn't it?
  18. Well I'm scratching my head. You tell me. Ward Prowse I guess but even he hasn't nailed down a place. Targett has played a few games but is very much the understudy. Who else? Reed hasn't progressed at all and bar a few appearances on the bench no one else has stepped up. We certainly haven't produced a Lallana type that comes from the academy and becomes a key player. And I can't see one pushing for a place now can you ?
  19. I think Vectis is pretty much correct. The model is not the same as it was during the Cortese era. Academy products were a big part of the strategy but that is not sustainable in the top 10 of the premier league. We aren't going to produce many players who can go from the development squad playing U23 games - to the first team. It's too big a gap. In fact you can see this from the current team. No academy players have made it in the last two or three years since we rejoined the prem. St Fen, I don't think Vectis was complaining or saying we should have kept Wanyama etc. On the contrary. As we became more successful the model changed to rely less on bringing thourgh 2-3 academy players each year to selling high and buying lower. If academy players happen to make it then that's a bonus but we are not reliant on that happening anymore.
  20. I always had a theory that if your striker isn't scoring I would park him in front of goal between the six yard line and the penalty spot (from where he will finish 9 out of ten) and get the younger lads to cross balls in to him one after the other. He just nods, volleys or hammers them in. If he does that in training then when on the pitch he will be used to hitting the net he won't overthink it. form is largely a mental thing providing you are fit and it requires a simple change of thinking for things to flow again. Anyway its just an idea..
  21. No, no go on. Dont listen to them. You carry on. This sounds really interesting. Again.
  22. Oh Ok. I still think there's rules though. My friend lives in Totton and his lad was at the Chelsea academy for a few years. I thought the player had to live within an hour of the ground or something but then the bigger clubs began to entice kids by offering flats etc near the training ground to the parents to get around it. The point still stands though. Your scouts will recruit kids that reflect the areas they live in surely.
  23. I don't know if this is valid but aren't we restricted in our academy recruitment by location? I thought we could only recruit within a certain geographical area. I assume other clubs have similar restrictions. Therefore (in general terms) a team like Spurs will see far more black kids playing football in their local areas than Saints would. Harringay for example has a large black community. If a club is in an area with more black communities, then they are going to see and recruit more black kids than a team like Saints who have less black communities locally. No?
  24. We seem to overlook the fact he's still only 21. Redmond has joined and I've seen many a post saying that Redmond has great potential and has plenty of time to develop into a really good player. Yet for some reason we don't give our own the same leeway. The England set up obviously rate him and make him captain. The club obviously rate him and he gets game time. I wish our fans would cut him some slack, he's still a very young player and despite his experience he can still improve. Would you rather we sold him at 21 only to see him flourish elsewhere and turn into a 30 million pound player?
  25. If their system actually does make all these huge returns then why offer it as a service to others? Why not just do it yourself? I guess it's because whether you win or lose, they make money anyway - which they consider to be a better business model than what they are trying to sell to you.
