🤣 bet Brentford wished they noticed that Giles was the brain behind it all a lot earlier. Would have saved them a salary. But yes they decided to go with a sole director of football after Ankerson left so you're probably right, Ankerson was merely in the room for those 6 years and shouldn't get any credit for his time there. The Brentford fans I lived with during that time are wrong to be grateful to him, no credit should go to him for recommending Thomas Frank joined as a coach and don't even dare to suggest that a well run football club over a 6 year period with consistent player sales but consistent improvement should be in anyway be down to Ankerson and we have definitely got a dud.

He left on his own accord to be the co-founder of Sport Republic and subsequently invest in us. He was a big part of Brentfords revamp and did very good work as Chairman of FC Midtjylland before that. Lets not rewrite history here. Some poor managerial decisions and transfer decisions seemingly but I think he'd have appreciated his head of recruitment staying for more than 1 window at the very least. Don't think the blame should be placed at one person for this season. It's the result of a lack of evolution in coaching style IMO and a failure to replace Ings to mask the problems mainly. Plenty to blame.

Isn't that the issue though? Same group (minus the exceptional goal scorer which can mask any issues) and same ideas. We didn't evolve any of our patterns of play. We tried little adaptations and occasionally different formations but they all felt pretty desperate and never really clicked but the other teams in the league have quickly become accustomed to our style of play. We went top and then did a free fall later that season. Teams came to St Marys and defended deep which put the onus on us to do something different and we've been clueless at home ever since. Fundamentally there's good traits in the team, it's why we don't get battered too much and it's why a fair few of the squad will be courted by top teams if we go down (none of the attackers fwiw) but we don't have any star quality we had back then and other than get it to some of the dribblers in the squad we don't have any drilled way of attacking either and probably haven't had since the times you are talking about.

Honestly baffles me there's people who still think there is a correct 11 to pick from our squad. Few months back people were apoplectic with rage if you even dared to suggest DCC wasn't the greatest CB we have but he gets a start, performs terribly and we move onto the next one. There isn't a player in our squad who can say they've not had a chance. There's no magic 11 that will suddenly attack. We've recruited for 4 years for a manager who prioritised off the ball qualities. Then in January we recruited for a manager who wanted more physical qualities, we then sacked that manager and appointed someone who wants to go back to the previous managers traits. There's probably logic in every step individually (why wouldn't Jones want a bigger/quicker squad? why wouldn't Selles look at the squad and revert back to what it's been recruited to do?) but the result is we're in a situation where we have a whole squad that lacks ability on the ball. There's isn't an 11 that suddenly attacks free flowingly because it lacks the quality to do so. There will be occasional moments of course and we need to find a way to covert those moments into wins but we haven't had a manager who has been appointed to focous on attacking patterns of play for years and it shows in the whole squad.

Intrigued to know the difference between Salisu and KWP for example. Do you think KWP comes in everyday does his training and sets aside an hour after each session to discuss a contract he’s no intention of signing just to get in the side? Do you think DCC, who is posting pictures of himself on holiday in the city of a club publicly courting him, is fully committed to the club? If the suggestion is true it’s double standards at the very least. I’d be very surprised if it wasn’t the club trying to manage the PR over a fairly popular player barely being picked since the new manager came in for a reason that is unknown. The sources that reported it are all well known club leak sources.
-
Also not being enforced for another 2 years.
-
Well it's better to paint Salisu as the bad guy rather than anyone at the club. Also ends any questioning as to why he's not in the squad. Maybe it's true that they've decided they don't like him looking for a way out but why then replace him in the squad with someone who is doing the same? Or maybe it's something else? Maybe a fall out with the manager who hasn't picked him since he's been in charge? Who knows. And I wouldn't worry about transfer fee's, it's all PR management, people in football will know the truth and won't worry about stuff leaked to the press.
-
He's not the only one who has a move lined up and not the only one with a contract running out so I would hazard at guess at the reasoning leaked to the media is a convenient one rather than the truth.

Southampton didn't know what they wanted but Marsch pulled out when he was told what they wanted. Cheers for the insight Jimmy.

Which would be somewhat comparable if Bowen hadn't scored his 16 goals by January when he was sold and also hadn't come off two other seasons in the Championship scoring 14 and 22.
-
Why are people so concerned about how others watch football?
-
Cannot believe anyone is angry about that today. Plenty to be annoyed about this season but you should have given your emotions a day off today. Anything we got was a bonus and getting worked up about being beat by City doesn't do anyone any good.

Weren't you on here the other day complaining that Nathan Jones hadn't done anything to deserve the job? Listen to yourself you daft git.
-
Ties to the club 😂 He hardly loved the place when here ffs. Literally has talked about being under appreciated as a person throughout his playing career and using it to inspire him as a manger. He isn’t taking our club in the Championship.
-
The goals don’t just transfer over you know. He’s got to get himself in the team, the team has to be set up to suit him and give him chances and then he’s got to take them again. I repeat, what happens if he doesn’t start well? Confidence shot to pieces and he’s still itching for a move at the end of August. All assuming we go down and he wants to move of course. And we aren’t getting much more than 15m fwiw. Take a moment to think how pissed off you would be if we spent 15 million one a guy who scored less goals than Che and Armstrong in the Championship.

Intrigued to hear what this includes… I thought the whole point of us wanting new owners was because the previous one wasn’t building anything over the years he was here?
-
Edozie is 4 years younger than Tella and yet they’ve probably performed as well as each other at the top level. Edozie is also considered one of his countries best players of his age group and playing for England accordingly. He’s also started a Charity Shield match for one of the best sides in the country. Tella as far as I’m aware was not considered at that level. I don’t think comparing them is particularly fair, but if you’re going to do it, at least do it properly.
-
And if he doesn’t score in the first 3-5 games for us, then what? Dropped, and deemed not good enough, value gone, out on loan again? The lads put himself in a high status at Burnley so unless he wants to stay we should be taking the money. He’s not a rare player or a goal machine we can’t afford to lose. Clearly talented and if he wants to make it here then great but if not then 10-15 million feels fine and reinvestable.
-
That’s a hell of a leap and a weird barometer to judge a player by. Although not as weird as all the comparisons to other players and their values in this thread. I’m sure they’ll be unfairly used as a stick to have a pop at the owners though when he’s sold for 10-15 million. Don’t really see the point of him staying at us, can only be a lose lose situation for him personally because there’s a slim chance he becomes the cult hero he is at Burnley so take the move and opportunity when you can. Don’t think it’s a massive loss for us either. Players like him are not rare, it’s the opportunity and patience and shown that’s the rare thing and he’s taken advantage of a good situation at Burnley. Fair play but no big loss to us if/when he goes. Wouldn’t begrudge him forcing that move through at all.

We won all 3 games that week including one before the City game. There was no sudden impulse to change tactics or reverting of game plans but shock horror a game in the middle of the week and between 2 others including one against relegation rivals a couple of days later did involve some change of personnel and even more of a shock a game against one of the best sides in country meant we had a different plan to the ones against Palace and Everton. But yeah, some weird conspiracy theory that for a reason nobody has explained yet, Jones thought ‘ah go on Ruben, I’ve just picked up my first win and we have a massive game at the weekend, but you take charge of this one fella.’ probably feels much more logical.

Experience and lack of experience isn't something I would particularly judge people on so no, I'd have no issue with it specifically.
-
Meghoma is going to be some player, thought he was the stand out Saints player yesterday. Lots of the others were bullied and that can happen at this level so no shame in that especially as I thought technically at times Saints looked the more comfortable on the ball. Reckon there will be more out of that Saints team making it than the West Ham team in a few years but tough match up against one of the strongest youth teams in the country right now.
-
Not a tournament fwiw.
-
I didn't say anything about having little confidence in them and their selections fwiw.

Have I missed all the experienced/proven signings the club have made since SR came here then? Literally almost every appointment and signing they have made have been untried.
