The man who actively went out on local radio telling everyone how much he’s missed playing European football and wants to experience it again is not playing in the Championship next year - and if he is it’ll be his last option. Also would be intrigued to see the reaction on here last season if we were trying to sign a relegated captain who is 28 years old and being told our £20 million valuation is nowhere near enough.

There’s no delay as such in the Rice transfer. I think it’s just the normal legal stuff that has to go on before it’s confirmed. People think it’s a delay because journalists are desperate to get news out so early because their readers want content and so the deal seemed wrapped up ages ago. The announcement of Charles for example will be well after the breaking of the story by all the normal sources which have now become the equivalent of the club announcing a new signing.

I too wouldn’t expect Salisu to be in club PR pieces but that’s nothing to do with his future and everything to do with his marketability to the target audience.

Find it funny that the people think the marketing team and manager sit down and have a chat about players futures before doing a kit shoot. Sometimes even roughly 3 months before the previous season ends.

‘Good enough last season for the first team’ has very much been watered down from ‘failure’ so you’re learning. It’s good to see your development. Imagine where you’ll be in a few years.

He was signed to help the first team and be a long term signing. That’s literally what it was advertised as. He did okay and guess what, he’s still got a few years left in him.

In fairness to Fonte, in a more structured team at Lille he did very well. French league isn’t slow so if you work it right there’s probably some merit to it. Personally though, I’m not a fan of it, he’s past his best, I’m not convinced we’d play to his strengths and it seems as though if his side are leaking stuff to the media and he’s replying to Instagram messages about it then his side are probably getting a little desperate to make it happen. Happy to be proven wrong but if we really want his leadership qualities and experience, give him a role as a coach. Not overly convinced bringing a fan favourite who could do no wrong as a coach is a particularly wise move for Martin though either.

Different players have different development paths but this one specific 20 year old I’ve concluded is a failure and that’s final. You’re so close. Last season he did exactly what a kid should do. Try things, fail, try again and he got moved in and out of the team accordingly. Long term signings should be judged long term.

Tella also played for us and failed to deliver, he still hasn’t incidentally, but his development and performances for Burnley show that judging 19 year olds as a failure seems a bit daft. I’m shocked it’s taken 3 posts of mine and others to realise that.

For a 19 year old in his first year of professional football I thought he did okay. You’re right though, he’s not Tella who had made how many appearances in men’s football at 19?

Bringing in Ings would only push Ballard back. Don’t think he’d be pleased unless you sold at least 2 of Che, Mara, Armstrong.

If/when Sport Republic own a top division club, especially when it’s in La Liga, I’d understand and expect that particular route to be explored. 2nd Division Turkish and French clubs I’m not sure would benefit any of our young players.

This is going to become one of those tiresome things people say and assume will happen but rarely actually does. Not sure what a loan deal to Goztepe really does for any young players development if they have desires to be included in PL football. There’ll be better options out there. Very rare that dealings happen that way around I would suggest.

People develop at different ages. We’ve given some young players opportunities but the 19 year olds and younger we’ve really thrown into PL have been exceptional talents. I don’t think we were ever really relying on Larios, Edozie or Mara for example. Tino, Lavia and Bazunu. The rest have rightly been dropped in and out, I see no reason why this kid won’t be the same. Tella and Smallbone are 24 and 23. Signing 19 years for a couple of years time doesn’t seem strange to me at all.

Always good to remember that if a selling club is leaking fees they want to the press it’s for show. If a buying club is leaking figures to the press it’s also for show. There’ll be a middle ground and any further leaks about the final fee will be skewed from each side and also for show.

He’ll get plenty of playing time at Liverpool. Only Fabinho ahead of him in that deep lying position and he can learn from him and put pressure on him also. Big platform that will boost him into the Belgium squad. Good environment that won’t turn toxic unlike Chelsea for example too. Maybe Arsenal equally as good as an opportunity as well but I feel like Liverpool would be best for his development. Will be interesting to see where he fancies.

I'm judging him as a player whose fitness has seemingly been a concern and a player who isn't going to get any better. That is at any level. If we're all agreeing he's not good enough for the PL but also agreeing we want to be back in the Prem next season then what's the point in matching Leicesters offer of a 3 year deal? I also don't think Lyanco and Stephens should be anywhere near our squad next season either fwiw.
