scott_saints Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Right, I am basically clueless as to what makes a good laptop but just after a few ideas really. £300 is my ideal limit. Any help appreciated!
stevegrant Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Novatech are a decent bet for that sort of budget, although with any laptop of that price, battery life is going to be pretty poor. http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/range.html?t=nb&c=home&r=E15
scott_saints Posted 21 October, 2008 Author Posted 21 October, 2008 The current lapotp is a Novatech. I broke the screen and the thing is pretty slow now so I thought I'd use it as a chance to "upgrade". Does the one in the link look decent then??

Does the one in the link look decent then?? If you click select on that one, it charges an extra £60 odd quid for the operating system (vista, XP etc), so it's £298 without an operating system. Bought this one at the weekend and it seems like a good deal to me (admittedly I know very little about laptops though) http://www.staples.co.uk/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=%2C&webid=396307&affixedcode=WW

thesaint sfc Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 http://stores.ebay.co.uk/eComputers-LTD I buy lots from these guys. Choose a £360 laptop and email them asking for it for £300 and usually you'll get it. Don't get a celeron processor.

Not a lover of the CELERON CPU myself, but when you only have £300 your mainly in that territory anyway!
Essruu Posted 22 October, 2008 Posted 22 October, 2008 £300 limit, lol. If you'd saved up a little more pocket money you could almost have afforded my second hand MacBook that I've just sold for £400. I might even have let you drool at my new MacBook mmm......

St Landrew Posted 25 October, 2008 Posted 25 October, 2008 Not for people with £300 limits, but I thought an attention post wouldn't go amiss. The Medion Akoya 6612 laptop for £579: http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/58_7660.htm http://www.computeractive.co.uk/computeractive/hardware/2228901/review-medion-p6612-notebook Just in case someone is after a laptop with a little more poke.
Weston Super Saint Posted 25 October, 2008 Posted 25 October, 2008 I would rather give £280 to charity than buy and Acer, let alone with a celery processor. It's fine for her needs! Checking emails and the occasional 'surf', plus viewing a few pictures.
