Announcement tomorrow 7AM?

Hearing tonight from more than one source there is going to be major (but unfortunately negative) developments tomorrow, starting with an announcement at 7AM re the shares.

There are some last gasp negotiations going on which have been circulating for several days but it seems hopes are now fading and it could be administration by this time tomorrow. Hope I am wrong but I would not post this without being reasonably certain of the facts.

I wouldn't be surprised to be honest.

The fact that the share price has dropped to just 9p shows that things aren't looking too good for us.

If true, a sad, sad day for the club and us fans, but I really hope this turns out to be nothing more than a rumour.

if true, the the directors need "shooting" - its less than a week since the admin deadline. They should have made the decsion last week.

I hope someone comes out and says what has changed since last Thursday. Everybody knew the deadline so what event has occurred? I am certain the banks would have not left a negative decision until this week, if it needed to be made last week.

Should give us something to shout about at the Charlton match.

I think there was feverish negotiations going on all last week but today Aviva and Barclays finally pulled the plug or turned down what was on over. I think the deadline bit is a red herring to be honest.

FF, just seen these comments on the 606 site, is there any chance that this is what the announcement is about i.e. we lose the ground to new owners?

"Heard today that it is a possibility that Southampton City Council may take the stadium on in a rescue package designed to bail out Lowe and the failed board.

After Lowe angered Stoneham planners to the point they refused to continue negotiations it was the City Council who provided the plot we now have, although Lowe curiously ignored that fact when claiming the credit for the new ground.

With relegation to league 1 a very strong possibility, players sales and cut backs leaving the club worse off not better and a weakened squad for the last few games, the finances are laid bare.

We can't afford a prem ground in the 3rd tier of football.

At least the ground would still be in City hands as opposed to some hedge fund or investment bank."

"The way i understand it is the council would not buy the ground but take the repayments over, they would become the new owner and would pay the mortgage."

Please be true!!!!!!

Unfortunately, I've heard similar. However, I'm intrigued that this is being leaked given that the person responsible could get in some seriously hot water with the stock exchange.

Duncan I have been hearing this tonight as well !!

Well there's a surprise.

Let's hope that its not an "April Fool" !!

That was my initial thought as well, but it's a few hours early.

If true, why this week ? does this not mean a 10 point deduction next season now?

It entirely depends on where we finish at the end of the season. If we, by some bizarre miracle, finished 11 points ahead of the relegation zone, the penalty would be carried over to the start of next season. That would also be the case if we ended up being relegated anyway. If we finish "safe" but 10 points (or 9 points if our goal difference is better than whoever finishes 22nd) or less clear of safety, the penalty would be enforced immediately.

Technically yes but if the leak was after market closed and the announcement is at 7am there is no opportunity to trade before it so difficult to take advantage

So we're as good as down, as it will be hard enough to get mathematically safe as it is. No way would we get 11 points clear.

So we're down, starting on minus 10.

****ing Great!

Why would anybody want to leak these details what are they gaining?

People usually leak to gain an advantage

Given what has happened to the share price and persistent rumour about administration this may be a decision to suspend share trading until the situation becomes clearer. Suspended shares don't automatically assume administration and even companies like Barclays had their shares suspended at the start of the credit crunch fears. Likewise Woolworths also had their shares suspended. Hopefully, at this stage it's just a suspension in trading for whatever reasons like restructuring, unfounded allegations or suspicious trading.

Would seem odd going into administration a few days past the deadline but unfortuantely our creditors won't care to much about -10pt penalties and so before we go shooting off at the board lets see how this plays out and what the facts of the situation are. Now is not the time for recriminations and angry unfounded reflections. Whatever the reason and given the source I don't doubt its credibility, we need to understand the situation and ramifications and support the club through any eventuality.

Suspended share trading, which I hope is the announcement, does not equal administration or relegation.

Steve - I think you leapt to conclusions a bit fast there, and you were wrong. None of this has come from LC whatsoever. Move on from 2008 mate!

True 19C - but I hear there is also a board meeting later in the day.

Does anybody have a link to the Football League rules? The rumour seems to be that the Club will not go into administration, but that the owner of the Club will. Have the Football League covered this scenario? They only changed the rule to defer the 10 point deduction until the following season if you would have been relegated anyway after Leeds used that loophole.

i have heard slightly different....

Apparently we are going to 'do a Coventry' and say that we will go into Admin before the end of April unless we are taken over/have a large lump of money invested.

Have also heard Frost and Davies are poised.

But i thought Dailly and Lupoli had signed. (thought i would point that out before someone else does)

If I was wrong with my assumption, fine, but I don't think I was wrong to make that assumption, given the pair of you have - as far as I'm aware - tended to get the vast majority of your information from the same source in recent times.

I can accept Barclays position but do not understand Aviva's unless we have been defaulting on our mortgage payments or very concerned about meeting our commitments to them in the future. I don't doubt your integrity but on the face of it its difficult to believe Aviva had pulled the plug - do you know why? Have we defaulted?

Think you could be right. Interim results might be out tomorrow. It would be in the club's interest to suspend shares, especially if the financial results are very poor. Edited by Delmary

Sometimes Steve, its best not to pull your gun from your holster too quickly! To be fair to you.... that lesson took me a while to learn also!

What a very very sad day it will be! And there was me tonight with my 3 boys singing 'Oh when the saints go marching in' as the wife asked me to sing songs to my 2 year old to help him get to sleep. All this feels like my heart is being ripped out. So sad! Absolutely gutted.
