Glasgow_Saint Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 Gillingham keeper that P'boro bid for...... Sign him up
dubai_phil Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 BBC Solent Sport @solentsport BBC Solent understands #saintsfc are one of three Premier league clubs chasing Gillingham's highly-rated goalkeeper Paolo Gazzaniga there you go a source
LeBenali Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 I'd imagine if we were after him, it would be alongside another more established goalkeeper, probably with the view of loaning out Gazzaniga this season with the idea of him becoming our number 2 when Kelvin goes..
Mowgli Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 I thought this thread was a joke about Paul Gascogne in Italy
Midfield_General Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 Martin Allen, new manager of Gillingham, was talking about him on the radio at the weekend. Basically saying 'if Butland's worth £6m+ then this lad's worth more'. So I don't think he'd come cheap but he's clearly a great prospect.
mulletsaint Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 This the same Gazzaniga that KBS mentioned would be a good target two days ago? Funny that.
david in sweden Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 Saints interested in the "highly rated" ex-Valencia keeper Paulo Gazzaniga according to Radio Solent http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulo_Gazzaniga OK if that works, he'd be the no.3 keeper, but who will be is Davis' "shadow" as no.2 ?
Matthew Le God Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 He has a long accurate kick, something missing from Davis and Bialkowski's game... [video=youtube;-SHTGdf1oFs]
Sour Mash Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 OK if that works, he'd be the no.3 keeper, but who will be is Davis' "shadow" as no.2 ? He would be our 2nd keeper, not no.3.
warsash saint Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 Sounds like Gillington trying to engineer a move to me.
Saint Charlie Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 Saw him on Sky a couple of times and he looked very confident.
rooney Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 He is very tall.Should be able to command his box then.
This Charming Man Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 Martin Allen, new manager of Gillingham, was talking about him on the radio at the weekend. Basically saying 'if Butland's worth £6m+ then this lad's worth more'. So I don't think he'd come cheap but he's clearly a great prospect. Martin Allen - The king of spouting sh*t.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 Martin Allen - The king of spouting sh*t. I thought that was Harry Redknapp?
Hatch Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 I thought this thread was a joke about Paul Gascogne in Italy same
Miltonaggro Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 Martin Allen - The king of spouting sh*t. Offer them £600K and they would bite our hands off...
This Charming Man Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 I thought that was Harry Redknapp? He's the Queen...
SNOWY Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 He is very tall.Should be able to command his box then. 6ft 5" apparently.
Midfield_General Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 (edited) Martin Allen - The king of spouting sh*t. Indeed. He was giving it large about how he and Peter Reid had been heckling Capello at a manager's conference about England's performance at the World Cup - this from a man who had just been sacked by Notts County - and mocking the importance of "so-called tactics" in football. The man's a buffoon and Gillingham is probably above his level. Edited 10 July, 2012 by Midfield_General formatting
Crazy Diamond Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 Friend of mine met Mr. Gazzaniga at a chairty golf day. He'd been linked with Peterborough who had just released Lewis and Jones, and my friend being a Peterborough fan, had to ask. He replied that he was looking to leave Gillingham and had been told that there was interest from as high up as Chelsea. He said he'd definitely be going to a bigger club than Peterborough. A few days later they signed Torquay's stopper instead.
S-Clarke Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 He's a very, very good prospect. There seems to be less excitement over this one than Butland, which is odd, seeing as Butland played in exactly the same league as Gazzannga last year! and I'm pretty confident that he will cost a hell of alot less than Butland.
View From The Top Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 I'd still prefer Steele from the smoggies.
Saint Garrett Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 Steele is really average. Would rather have Butland or this fella.
View From The Top Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 Steele is really average. Would rather have Butland or this fella. And you know what about this fella that puts him above Steele?
trousers Posted 10 July, 2012 Author Posted 10 July, 2012 Lawrence Hall @LawrencePFCHall HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA the scummers are after Gillingham's keeper now! #DownBeforeItEvenStarts #Pompey
S-Clarke Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 good one skates, their football knowledge was always pretty poor.
Saint Garrett Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 And you know what about this fella that puts him above Steele? Personally nothing but it seems that he's more highly rated that Steele. One of my mates is a Boro fan and he says he's dreadful.
buctootim Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 One of my mates is a Boro fan and he says he's dreadful. They said the same about KD as well. Maybe he is, or maybe Boro fans get on their keepers back and they lose confidence.
Lets B Avenue Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 They said the same about KD as well. Maybe he is, or maybe Boro fans get on their keepers back and they lose confidence. Well of course they did. KD played for Sunderland.
buctootim Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 Well of course they did. KD played for Sunderland. I knew that
Saint_Jim Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 A Gillingham fan told me months ago about this guy and that it was only a matter of time before a big team come in for him
Torrent Of Abuse Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 Lawrence Hall @LawrencePFCHall HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA the scummers are after Gillingham's keeper now! #DownBeforeItEvenStarts #Pompey So I guess they have a keeper now?
rshephard3 Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 Martin Allen's a c**k and is trying to boost interest as he knows he's not a good enough manager to take Gills places meaning their good players will leave. I don't know but I'd imagine a couple of million would get us talking to this guy. Know nothing about him whatsoever so nothing to add on his ability I'm afraid.
Matthew Le God Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 So I guess they have a keeper now? They are giving trials to two keepers, one released from Kettering Town and one from Halifax Town.
rshephard3 Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 They are giving trials to two keepers, one released from Kettering Town and one from Halifax Town. And one released from McDonald's in Havant...
Saint_DB Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 And one released from McDonald's in Havant... And presumably another released from a juvenile correction facility, although that could be the McDonalds one.
Torrent Of Abuse Posted 10 July, 2012 Posted 10 July, 2012 They are giving trials to two keepers, one released from Kettering Town and one from Halifax Town. Must be nice for them to see "Portsmouth" and "Trial" in the same news story without the word "Defendant" as well.
John D Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Sounds like this one could be a go-er? Some new info?
Saint Garrett Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 http://www.kentsportsnews.com/gills-pair-on-verge-of-leaving-club-15-07-2012/
itchen_dan Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Martin Allen was on Talksport yesterday saying they have agreed a fee and are close to completing a deal with a Premier League club for "a lot of money" for Gazzaniga. He even describes it as sort of season changing money where if the deal goes through, he can sign players to win the title but if it doesn't, he'll have to lower his sights and aim for play offs. Some Gills fans have heard rumours that the deal is worth around £2.5 million!
SaintBobby Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 I hate it when news outlets, such as BBC Solent, use the term "understand". E.g. "The BBC understands that Capello will become Russian manager". Presumably everything they report is what they "understand". But they tend to add in the word "understand" to mean "we kind of think this, but aren't wholly sure". Which isn't really the dictionary definition of "understand"....
Appy Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Seems promising, this guy looks like he has potential.
Badger Posted 17 July, 2012 Posted 17 July, 2012 He's a very, very good prospect. There seems to be less excitement over this one than Butland, which is odd, seeing as Butland played in exactly the same league as Gazzannga last year! and I'm pretty confident that he will cost a hell of alot less than Butland. Not odd at all, Butland has been selected for a full international squad and is widely recognised as an outstanding prospect. No one had previously heard of the Gillingham gk. Martin Allen was on Talksport yesterday saying they have agreed a fee and are close to completing a deal with a Premier League club for "a lot of money" for Gazzaniga. He even describes it as sort of season changing money where if the deal goes through, he can sign players to win the title but if it doesn't, he'll have to lower his sights and aim for play offs. Some Gills fans have heard rumours that the deal is worth around £2.5 million! Presumably with additions and top ups etc.
dune Posted 17 July, 2012 Posted 17 July, 2012 Gazzaniga is a bit of a mouthful. I think it should be abbreviated if he plays for us.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 17 July, 2012 Posted 17 July, 2012 Could this lad be the new Phil Kite (the last goalie I can remember playing for Saints and Gills)?
